Reason behind 64 bit processor in iphone 5s

Moving from 32 bit processor to 64 bit processor in the mobile industry is the remarkable achievement. Apple is the first smartphone vendor who moved from 32 bit to 64 bit.
The reasons behind this remarkable and massive upgrade are:

  1. Customer satisfaction in terms of Technical specifications

Most of the customers used to compare technical specifications of their smartphones. Even though there is a lot difference between specifications between IOS devices and android devices. But consumers won't be like that.
With this leap between 32-bit processor to 64-bit processor brings more satisfaction to the customers. And device having a billion transistors sounds good.
  2. Allows more RAM

You already heard a sentence in Apple's keynote "Exactly like Desktop architecture", this makes you think like more RAM. Almost all 64 bit processors will have atleast 4GB RAM and it supports up to 16 GB RAM. This gives a clear picture of Apple's strategy to be having more RAM.
Apple didn't unveil the amount of RAM in its latest Iphone 5s yet. We will be getting the acurate value once the device is released (20th September). Iphone 5 is shipped with 2 512MB RAM chips. Now in 5s having a 64 bit Processor and a M7 Motion processor we expect atleast 2 GB RAM.
  3. More performance and high computational capability

64 bit architecture definitely supports high computations. Most of the applications which supports translation, digital image processing etc.. needs 64 bit processors for getting its full functionality without delay.

Now let's compare some of the features of iphone 5s which definitely needs this processor. Camera app now supports burst mode and in the demo also we found the result of burst mode, in less than a second we can take good amount of pictures with the same clarity as that of taking a normal picture. And it supports a parallel recording and taking pictures as well. And SIRI now is very fast and supports two voices.
Last but not least the finger print scanner, the scanned images are being stored in the processor itself. Comparing an image without a delay is not a small task, for having that this processor is needed.
  4. Combining Desktop/Mobile in a single device

Already Ubuntu corporation is working on Ubuntu Edge which in turn makes a mobile device into a full pledged computer. Now this suggests Apple is also going to achieve this functionality very near in the future.
The architecture for 64-bit apps on ios is almost identical to the architecture for OS X aps, making it easy to create a common code base that runs in both operating systems which helps Apple developers to create an unified development platform and apps as well.
  5. Competition

Apple scored a win in the smartphone market with this processor and taking IOS to next level. Major competitors Android and windows are far behind this mark.
Android may be supporting 64 bit architecture in Android 5.0 Laddu but windows is growing now itself and it takes more time to reach this mark.
Final Verdict :

The summary is that there's a lot more to the iPhone switching to a 64-bit processor than hype. While the applications for it might be limited right now, Apple is paving the way for improvements that we'll see trickle into the iPhone over the next few years.
